Ukarumpa House

Here are a few pictures around the house we're renting. We may end up buying it, or we may end up in a different house.

This is a separate apartment known as a 'translator lodge' and originally used to house translators from the bush when they spent time on Ukarumpa.

Each house collects rainwater in barrels for drinking and washing

These grass huts are called hauswins. This one has a fire pit in the center

The house is equipped with a chicken coop with automatic water dispensing system

Small garden in the back yard

There are pineapples

And there are bananas

Kitchen and dining area

A few steps down is a living room. There's even a projector for movie night!

Bedroom #1 (William's)

Bedroom #2 (Millie's)

Bedroom #3 (Meg's)

Bedroom #4 (Emrich's)

Bedroom #5 - There's a half-bath attached to this room

Shower & Laundry - There's a washing machine, but no dryer. We'll use clothes lines outside

The main house has one shower and two toilets. We are doing well with only the one shower. We rarely run two showers at the same time, even when that's an option! The translator lodge out back has another toilet and shower as well.

There's even a separate tub, shower, and wood-fired sauna room behind the carport! The previous occupants of this house were Dutch, and he worked as the head of the wood shop on the center. Apparently, he had the building skills and prioritized having a personal sauna 😄

There's a wood stove under the lava rocks
